A
native
of Oban, I trained in medicine at
Glasgow
University
.
I
emigrated to
Norfolk
in 1992 to be with my wife to be and I gained most of my hospital
experience in the
Norfolk
and
Norwich
hospital.
Despite
the beautiful Norfolk countryside, the fine dry summers and the lack
of midgies in Norfolk,
we chose to return to the West of Scotland and I completed by GP
training in Tarbert on the shores of Loch Fyne. I stayed on there
for another year as an associate GP while looking for a permanent
position.
I
was honoured to be accepted to partnership at Tweeddale Medical
Practice in October 1997 where I replaced Dr Colin MacDonald.
Tweeddale
Medical Practice is committed to ongoing education and development
of all members and I have enjoyed taking part in this over the
years.
I
began to tutor medical students from
Aberdeen
University
and enjoyed this.
I
sat my MRCGP exam and passed with distinction.
I
then took the Scottish national trainers course and became a trainer
of GP registrars
(doctors
who wish to become GPs).
In
addition to my educational role in the practice, I take
responsibility for diabetes care. I mainly enjoy the basics of
general practice, which is seeing patients who wish to consult with
me about medical problems. In my time outside work, I run
around after my four children most of the time. I enjoy
teaching and coaching at the local swimming club and try to keep
myself fit with swimming, cycling running and reading.
