Dr Douglas has been a Doctor
in the Practice since 1979. He has developed a long-standing
interest in medical education, research and occupational
medicine. He has published many scientific papers and founded
the Highlands & Islands Primary Care Research Network. He
is a deputy Police Surgeon and is qualified in the medical
examination of divers.
More recently, the Scottish Executive appointed him as part-time
Project Director for the Remote And Rural Areas Resource Initiative
(www.rarari.org.uk). This
was a very important initiative within
N.H.S Scotland to improve services in remote and rural parts
of the country. The Practice carried out the
administrative systems for the project, which attracted national
and international interest. R.A.R.A.RI concluded its 4 year
life-span on 31st March 2004. Dr Douglas has since returned as
full-time Senior Partner to the Practice.
His hobbies include sailing and swimming.
He is married to Christine, who is a District Nurse. They
have 4 children. The oldest is a junior Doctor, the next two
are at University and the youngest is at the High School.
